The hairdresser has probably more need for a reliable  sink strainer  than most people, with all that hair being washed and shed every day.  The salon basins often have the plughole next to the wall of the sink, making it very difficult to fit one of those metal things.  Many hairdressers' hairtraps have teeth;  we have heard of a hairdressing students not using the strainers because they had knocked one out of position and got it tangled.

This was the moment that set me out to find the best answer. (I had been kept waiting for an appointment because a sink was out of use due to a blockage. And it was a "posh salon!").
